Wish for an "Oh-So Savannah" Winter Holiday

The outdoor winter temperature is mild, city sidewalks beckon a "let's walk," old Savannah shops deliver a chic international flare, and the historic district park squares are glorious decorated for Christmas. With the flair of a genteel southern social invitation, the Association of Historic Inns of Savannah launches its first advertising – a reminder to indulge in the authentic Savannah style of the historic mansions and small boutique hotels. Encompassing artist Mitchell Smith’s recent Forsyth Park fountain painting entitled “Showtime in Forsyth,” the Historic Inns association drives home their message, literally, via Chatham Area Transit bus #3031 on its Barnard Street downtown route. The moving billboard is targeted to reach tourists and professionals in the business district with an enticing message -- "Artful hospitality. Intimate lodging. Indulge."

June 2005 American Eagle begins non-stop service Savanah from Dallas/Ft. Worth

USATODAY reports on June 9, 2005, American Eagle begins non-stop service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Savannah, Ga. There will be three daily round-trip flights on that route using 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145s.

Off the Press

Best-selling author John Jakes has a new historical novel that's sure to put Savannah back in the spotlight. The novel, "SAVANNAH (or) A Gift For Mr. Lincoln," is now on sale. The September/October issue of SAVANNAH Magazine features Mr. Jakes' perspectives: "HOW A CITY INSPIRED A NOVEL."

The New York Times Book Review says of Mr. Jakes, "He is quite simply, a master of the ancient art of storytelling."
